The other day, we had the opportunity to tour the warehouses and cargo terminal area of Narita Airport, thanks to the sponsorship of Sankyu Corporation, a major logistics company with which we have a capital alliance.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this business trip is to "learn about the airport shipping process for international air transport."<\/p>\n

Even as someone who loves to travel and frequently visits airports, I was thrilled to be able to tour areas that are normally off-limits.
\nThis is also the first time for our fresh new employees who just joined the company on April 1st.<\/p>\n

First, we visited a warehouse that Sankyu Co., Ltd. has partnered with (Sanritsu Co., Ltd.).<\/p>\n

To prevent terrorist incidents and other security breaches, security measures were extremely strict, including identity verification when trucks were brought into the warehouse and also when they left.<\/p>\n

They not only took measures to ensure the safety of people, but also thoroughly checked the safety of cargo, and even conducted explosives inspections within the warehouse.
\nA special machine was used to check for the presence of explosives, and if any abnormalities were detected, the shipper and the police were notified, and the package was opened to check its contents.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, they were using a system called NACCS, which manages the entire process from cargo shipment to departure online, to improve efficiency.
\nOnce registered with NACCS (i.e., after leaving the factory), any cargo before arrival in the exporting country, even if en route to the airport, is treated as foreign cargo, and even a change in its placement requires notification to customs. (The same applies to cargo that has been imported but has not yet passed through customs.)<\/p>\n

The dedicated rooms for storing refrigerated and frozen goods are equipped with a device called a "temperature logger" that records the temperature in real time, and by plugging in a USB, you can view the record of temperature changes during storage.<\/p>\n

Next, during our tour of the cargo terminal area, we primarily learned about customs declaration procedures.
\nThe customs building is divided into floors by department, and it seems that individuals can also handle customs procedures.<\/p>\n

Used Boeing jumbo jets were often used as cargo planes, and some cargo was even shaped like a quarter circle to allow for more efficient loading.<\/p>\n

After visiting the two facilities, I was reminded that there are numerous detailed rules, including various documents, involved in import and export, and that there are many barriers to entry for small and medium-sized enterprises that are unfamiliar with or inexperienced in export business.
\nFurthermore, I felt that there is still a lot of analog work involved in the import and export flow, and that there is much room for improvement through digitalization.<\/p>\n

To enable small and medium-sized enterprises to conduct import and export businesses safely, securely, and easily, and to improve the efficiency of operations for those on the ground.
\nTo make DiGiTRAD a service that offers enjoyment again and again, we will continue to listen to the opinions of those on the ground and make further updates!<\/p>\n

This visit to Narita Airport was an invaluable experience for us as a company promoting logistics DX, allowing us to get a firsthand feel for the situation on the ground.<\/p>\n
