Hello, I'm staff member Mmi (^^)/
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has been awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize!
As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads around the world, concerns about food issues have become even more serious.
Export restrictions were imposed in some grain-producing countries, and in addition to export restrictions, food stockpiles increased on a global scale, accelerating the increase in the world's hungry population.
When you hear about famine, isn't it because there isn't enough food for the population?
But in fact, there is enough food produced in the world to feed everyone!
This is clearly borne out by the numbers: global agricultural production far exceeds consumption.
According to estimates by the United States Department of Agriculture, rice and wheat production in 2020 will reach 1.26 billion tons, enough to feed the world's population of 7.7 billion people, with a surplus of 470 million tons even if people consume them normally...
Despite this, one in nine people in the world still do not have enough to eat.
According to the report "The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2020" published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), approximately 750 million people were in situations of severe food insecurity in 2019.
By region, Asia has the largest population at approximately 422 million.
Next is Africa with approximately 249 million people.
Comparing prevalence rates, Africa has the highest rate at 191 TP3T, followed by Asia at 91 TP3T.
If we also include those who are moderately food insecure, the number exceeds two billion, or one in four people worldwide.
There are many factors that contribute to the food shortage, including armed conflict, climate change, and economic crisis, but one factor is the food situation in African countries, which is heavily dependent on imports, and which has been greatly affected by export control measures in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
However, high-income countries also have the problem of wasting large amounts of food, despite importing the same amount of food.
The current situation is that there is a huge imbalance in the number of people around the world, depending on region and country.
We at Standage also hope that people all over the world can trade freely and equally, and that we can contribute to improving food issues through trade.
"Enriching all regions of the world through the creation of innovative businesses"
There is something that is related to the mission (*^^*)
