Hello, I'm staff member Mmi (^^)
Last weekend was the university entrance examination.
Thank you to all the test takers for your hard work.
Every year, the questions are published in the newspaper the day after the exam, and I'm sure there are many people who remember those days and take the exam as adults (^^)
I can solve the questions just like I used to! I'm sure there are many people who think this, but for Mmi, when it comes to subjects in areas she hasn't touched since becoming an adult, she wonders, "Huh... how did I solve them...?" and it makes her a little sad;
Now, let's talk about this year's common university entrance test.
On the first day, question 5 of the first question in "Geography B" was about Africa.
(...Hmm, it's difficult...!)
This is a question that could only be answered by someone with a great deal of knowledge about African conditions.
In Africa, floods and droughts caused by rising temperatures are becoming more severe every year, and natural disasters such as violent storms and cyclones are occurring frequently in the eastern and southern parts of the country.
Furthermore, the climate crisis is causing changes in rainfall patterns, making it difficult to make a living from agriculture and other sources, leading to food shortages.
In addition, as a result of displacement caused by natural disasters, children are separated from their families and are unable to attend school, depriving them of educational opportunities.
Last weekend's massive eruption in Tonga was widely covered due to the risk of a tsunami reaching Japan, but information about natural disasters in Africa is rarely covered in the Japanese media.
Did all the Africa enthusiasts visiting our website solve it?
Of course, this problem cannot be solved without regularly collecting information about Africa; it seems to require taking into account the effects of the Great Rift Valley and cyclones.
(See the answer at the bottom.)
To all the students taking exams, you are still in the middle of your exams, but please take care of your health and don't give up until the end!
And to all the college students who have already passed the entrance exams!
Starting in fiscal year 2021, we will be actively recruiting new graduates.
