[Staff Blog] Moon Viewing in Japan and Abroad 🎑

【スタッフブログ】日本と海外のお月見🎑

Hello, I'm Mmi, a staff member.
Today, October 1st, is the harvest moon🎑

I wonder if I'll be able to see a beautiful moon tonight!
Mmi has prepared some perfect moon viewing dumplings 🍡(・∀・)b!!

Do you know the origins of this moon-viewing culture?

It began in Japan when the Chinese "Mid-Autumn Festival" was introduced during the Heian period.
In China, where it originated, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a major national holiday along with the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year), Qingming Festival, and Dragon Boat Festival, and is a legal holiday.
In Japan, "Otsukimi Dango"🍡 is a standard, but in China, they eat "Mooncakes"🥮
The mooncake is likened to a full moon, and is cut and eaten by the family, in hopes of family harmony and good health.

Mmi used to work for a company whose headquarters was in China, and she remembers that every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival, all employees would receive a gift of a mooncake box in an incredibly luxurious box.

This Mid-Autumn Festival is observed in East Asian countries around the world, and moon-viewing is also practiced in Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and other countries.
Most countries other than Japan eat mooncakes, but in Singapore mooncakes tend to have fruity fillings such as pineapple, mango, and banana.
It's interesting to see how each country has evolved in their own way!

According to the forecast in Tokyo, it looks like we'll be able to see a beautiful moon tonight🌕🐇
Work globally, but don't forget the beautiful traditions and culture of Japan (*^^*)
