Bringing 100 years of craftsmanship to the world: A long-established textile manufacturer takes a step towards building overseas sales channels.Miyata Textile Co., Ltd.
Founded in 1913, Miyata Textile Co., Ltd. is a long-established textile manufacturer specializing in traditional Japanese clothing such as padded hanten jackets, samue workwear, and jinbei. Committed to integrated manufacturing from yarn selection to sewing, the company develops unique products that blend traditional techniques with modern sensibilities. Now, more than 100 years after its founding, the company has embarked on a new challenge: a full-scale expansion into overseas markets.
assignment
- Lack of concrete know-how for overseas expansion
- Limited and unsustainable export scheme
- Lack of specialized personnel for overseas business within the company
current situation
- Securing sales channels by utilizing major distribution platforms.
- Improving our ability to respond to local needs in product development.
- Reducing internal burden by establishing a system that allows export operations to be outsourced.
Could you tell us what led you to introduce STANDAGE's automated trading service this time?
We had long wanted to deliver our products overseas. In the past, we had some experience with occasional overseas exports, but when our relationship with the trading partner who possessed the necessary know-how broke down, it became difficult to continue our efforts, and we felt we had reached our limits. Subsequently, as we began to seriously consider entering overseas markets, we had a vague anxiety that we had "absolutely no idea where to start." It was at this time that we came across STANDAGE's "Omakase Trading" service. We were strongly attracted to the service concept of "leaving everything to them."
Furthermore, the fact that they have a support system in place that even includes utilizing well-known major distribution platforms was a great source of reassurance for us. Above all, the biggest reason we decided to implement their system was the trust we felt in their flexible approach of responding while being attentive to our specific circumstances and challenges.
What exactly did it entail?
The greatest value that STANDAGE provides is the peace of mind that comes from knowing you can entrust everything to them. Thanks to them taking on all the complex and highly specialized import and export procedures, we are able to concentrate on what we should be focusing on: "manufacturing" and "product planning and development for our customers."
What was particularly impressive was that a representative from STANDAGE visited our site in person at the initial stage and carefully observed our product manufacturing process. Furthermore, they produced a product introduction video and even purchased and wore the products themselves, demonstrating a genuine understanding and involvement that goes beyond a simple proxy service.

What effects have you seen since implementing it?
Before implementing this system, although we had the desire to expand overseas, we lacked a clear path forward and didn't know where to begin. Through our collaboration with STANDAGE, our vague ideas have gradually taken shape, and we feel that our export plans have become much clearer.
Now, with expansion into countries like the United States and France in mind, we can envision a future where we can globally share our vision of "creating clothing that keeps you warm through winter and comfortable in spring, summer, and autumn." Our goal is not a fleeting hit, but to build brand value that will take root in the market in the long term. We feel that STANDAGE is supporting us as we work alongside them to build that foundation.
What kind of support do you expect from Omakase Trading in the future?
We expect STANDAGE to continue to be a partner with us from a medium- to long-term perspective, going beyond mere outsourcing. Our overseas expansion has only just begun, but we aim to continue penetrating local markets and eventually establish overseas brands that will become "another pillar" of our business.
Going forward, we hope to receive more in-depth support, such as building local partnerships and expanding sales channels. We want to work together to create a sustainable system that ensures the value of our products is continuously communicated to local users, rather than simply selling and being done with it.

Comment from Mr. Yoshikai of Miyata Textiles
The regular meetings where progress and challenges are explained in detail give us a great sense of security. What surprised us most was that the STANDAGE representative visited our site and provided support after gaining a deep understanding of our manufacturing process. Also, our main product, the "watashi hanten" (padded padded jacket), is a handmade winter garment made of cotton fabric filled with cotton, and there are very few similar products in the world. We want many people to experience the gentle warmth that natural materials offer.
We hope that STANDAGE will continue to be our partner in bringing our vision to the world. We hope to grow together as we establish ourselves as a brand known to those in the know.
